History of this engine:
The name of the engine comes from “BD” for “drive belt” the following letter being a version index. This engine comes from the development of the F1 engine, the famous V8 DFV made by Cosworth (LOTUS 49, 1967), which then gave birth to the FVA 4 cylinders in line with distribution by gear cascade, then a few years later to the BDA with distribution by belt.
This engine in these different variants (BDA, BDM, BDG, BDT, etc.) was used in Formula 2, in prototype sports (Lola T297, etc.) then in the Escort MK1/MK2, and finally in the Ford RS 200 Group B version turbo (BDT).

This engine has a Cosworth-design 16s aluminum cylinder head, a common technology today but very rare at that time.

We have redeveloped the engine with modern technical means (cylinder head blower, materials, technological advances, etc.) to make it more reliable and make it extremely efficient.
